Announcing Ruse of Heirs, a Tales of Rodhlan Novel

I’m so excited to announce a new novel AND a new series! Ruse of Heirs, originally planned as a novella, will be the first novel in the new Tales of Rodhlan standalone series. This story is recommended reading immediately after Vow of Magic.

Why Tales of Rodhlan?

Tales of Rodhlan will be home to standalone stories that expand the universe of The Witness Tree Chronicles. These books will primarily center around characters whose origins are on the continent of Rodhlan. Some of the books will be prequels, like Ruse, while others may take place in tandem with main series timelines.

Some of the characters who might have future stories in this series include:

  • Ellwyn

  • Rune

  • Iva

  • Talfryn

  • Tiriya

  • Fiadh

  • …and more!

I’ve been thinking about launching a side series for a while now - since many of our supporting characters have stories to tell! Excited to dig deeper into this world with you. :)

More About Ruse of Heirs

Ruse takes place three years before Defender of Histories (and 4 years before Vow). It’s a dual-POV novel set entirely at Fortress Halgeir. This story follows both Thorne and Oda Beran as life in Clan Beran’s territory is undergoing some major changes—namely, the introduction of Silira Mór’s mother, Iva, as the overlord’s soon-to-be wife.

If you’ve read Keeper of Keys, you’ve met Iva, Oda, and Thorne!

When I first began working on this book, I thought it would be a novella a little bit longer than Ballad of Stallions. But as I began to build it out, the story grew significantly. I believe it deserves full publication, including a print edition.
